NWG CSE assessment tool in Colwyn Bay **Cancelled**
A Message from NWG Network:
Many thanks for your interest in the launch of the new NWG CSE assessment tool in Colwyn Bay on 27th November 2017. Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to CANCEL this event. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We have been informed by the Welsh government that there is currently an ongoing review of the current statutory CSE guidance, national protocol and SERAF assessment, with the hope of a refreshed guidance and protocol. As you will know, the SERAF has been consistently used across Wales and is written into the current guidance and protocol. Following this review, Welsh Government still intends to refer to a single method of screening/assessment to maintain a consistent approach which has been identified as a strength of the current system.
The NWG do not wish to create any undue confusion for practitioners or to undermine any ongoing work by launching our new assessment tool in Wales.
That said, we have consulted in depth with practitioners, parents, carers and young people to develop the new tool that we are currently launching through a series of events across England. The findings from our consultations also reflect recent research that has been commissioned by the Centre of Expertise, due to be published next month, which is encouraging for us as we know that the research echoes practice experience in this area.
Our methodology is described during our launch event presentations in England, in addition to providing comprehensive context to the work, which I am more than happy to share with any of you if that would be helpful. The new tool will require a considerable shift in practice and change in culture but this should result in more informed assessment, planning and outcomes for children and young people.
Please do let me know if you would like to discuss this further and I hope you are reassured by my decision to cancel the launch event in Wales
Again, I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause
