Street Teams this week we delivered our first virtual PHSE session to Walsall college via Zoom.
We delivered our
The sessions explore the grooming process, how do you spot a groomer?, the stages around grooming and talking through the different forms of exploitation, from sexual, criminal and radicalisation.
We asked everyone on the group to ask any questions via the chat facility this way it stopped people all talking at once, but helped everyone being able to hear clearly. Also, young people had the chance to access a worker privately after the session, in case they needed to share anything confidentially.
We shared our experiences of working with victims of exploitation and brought it home by sharing anonymised cases that are based in Walsall. We explored youth language in relation to exploitation, but also how young people don’t see themselves being victims of exploitation, or from our experience not knowing what a healthy or unhealthy relationship looks like. We shared during our presentation how we work with young people to put them at ease, if any of the young people felt that they needed extra support around relationships.
Feedback from staff who joined the first session- “brilliant” “eye opener”, “fantastic” “keep doing the brilliant job you do”, “really well presented”
We will now be looking to work with the college around increasing the staffs knowledge on Exploitation and will be delivering more sessions for young people in the next coming weeks and some small workshops with young people in their tutor groups.
